About the studio
The Alabama Folk School was founded in 2007 at the McDowell Camp and Conference Center, a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama on 1,140 acres near Nauvoo. It runs residential workshops of one to four days, six times a year, in traditional crafts and music such as quilting, ceramics, painting, blacksmithing, banjo and fiddle, with lodging and meals on site. Students pick one main class per session; most sessions are for adults, with a Youth Folk Camp for grades 5 to 12.
