About the studio
The Harvey Milk Photo Center, founded in 1940 and managed by San Francisco Recreation & Parks, is the oldest and largest community wet darkroom in the United States, on the lower level of the Harvey Milk Center for the Arts in Duboce Park. Members get access during open hours to over 30 printing stations with enlargers, a film processing lab with shared chemistry and tanks, and a digital lab with five Photoshop and Lightroom stations, scanners and inkjet printers. New members book a Photo Center orientation, and the center runs seasonal film, darkroom and digital classes.
